Like A Sheep

I long for your salvation, O Lord, and your law is my delight. Let me live that I may praise you, and may your laws sustain me. I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I have not forgotten your commands.

Psalm 119:174-176
I’m imagining a sheep, out in the pasture surrounded by other sheep. How does it get lost? It probably doesn’t have any sense of ill or rebellion towards its owner, it just begins to wander, following its nose and the grass it is eating. As it wanders it doesn’t consider its surroundings or where it is compared to where it has been. It’s possible the stupid animal (I’m told sheep are stupid) doesn’t even know that it is lost! Being lost, it may not even perceived the danger it is in being away from the protection of the shepherd…

I’ve strayed like that. Oblivious to where my nose was taking me. I guess I am not as dumb as a sheep however (I wish). I have at times raised my head and noticed my location. “Seek your servant…” I have needed the Great Shepherd to come and lead me home. Even when you know which way you need to go, it’s good to have a Shepherd.

Devotions are important for me. I need the daily intake and processing of God’s Word for my spiritual sanity! The frenzy of life can too easily overtake me – I need God’s Word. I am weak and I need His strength. Even when I know this, having followed my nose somewhere else, it is not always easy to find your way back. It’s good to have a Shepherd!

I long for your salvation, O Lord, and your law is my delight! Let me live that I may praise you, and may your laws sustain me – my Lord and my God.

Christmas Gift

We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true—even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

1 John 5:19-20

What a gift this Christmas!

I Love My Wife

Alisa inspires me... truly. If you read what she wrote yesterday, you'll see a reason why! http://www.thejohnstonranch.net/ (You can also check out our Christmas photo. If you find yourself counting stockings, just know that that's normal... just laugh quietly, OK?)

God bless the children this Christmas time. Which reminds me! Have you heard the song "This Christmas" by Toby Mac? It's my 2007 Christmas song - amazing. Definitely worth the .99 at the iTunes Store...

Tomorrow & Today!

Hi Everybody!

Welcome to December! Tomorrow is the First Sunday of Advent. During the morning we'll conclude the Advent Conspiracy series, light the first candle... the Candle of Love, and we'll celebrate communion together! See you at 9am or 11am. Come early, linger late... it's Christmas!

Tomorrow Night is our ADVENT SERVICE at 6pm. Come as we "Prepare the Way" for the coming of the Lord! It will be a very special beginning to this most holy season. We want to prepare our hearts for Jesus...

Today's reading is amazing! Have you read your Bible today? In our Life Journal the reading for December 1st is Romans 5-8. This was the passage I suggested several Sundays ago for those of us who are struggling with habitual sin (and the guilt that naturally comes along with it). These four chapters in Romans have it all! We learn what God has done for us in Christ; the problem with sin and the destruction it brings; the truth about our identity in Christ; and the freedom and victory we now have in Jesus! Go! Go right now... Go read your Bible!

See you in the morning! :)
Neil
