Waiting For Mercy

But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you eternal life.

Jude 20-21

What a great description of how this saving relationship with Jesus works. One day I will be saved and I am waiting for the mercy of God that will come through Jesus Christ. While I wait I build myself up in the faith. I pray in the Holy Spirit. I keep myself in God’s love…

Earlier in Jude we read of those men who did not do those things. They were selfish and godless and they divide the church. In Isaiah we read God’s words to Israel to return to Him – over and over again! In Titus 3 we see how those who are trusting God must devote themselves to doing good.

Waiting for mercy is at the same time total dependence on God and being devoted to the Gospel. Waiting for mercy cannot be living wickedly because you will ultimately need God’s grace anyway. That is cheap grace and disrespecting the God who will save you. God’s people move toward Him. We pursue Him in our living. We depend totally on His grace. We build ourselves up in the most holy faith – not destroying the faith of others. We pray in the Holy Spirit – not live by the demands of the flesh. We keep ourselves in God’s love, worshipping the One who is consistent and merciful toward us.

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your mercy today. Help me to be merciful toward others. I am really looking forward to the eternal life You are bringing. Come any time! I am ready. While I wait for Your mercy I will live for You. Be glorified through my life today.
