Toward God
The LORD will again delight in you and make you prosperous, just as he delighted in your fathers, 10 if you obey the LORD your God and keep his commands and decrees that are written in this Book of the Law and turn to the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
11 Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. 12 It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, "Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?" 13 Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, "Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?" 14 No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.
15 See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. 16 For I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
Turning to the Lord with all your heart and soul is not too difficult. It is not beyond your reach! It’s not in heaven or across the sea. Being in vibrant connection with the Lord is as near as your breath. It’s in your heart. You can do this! You can obey God!
Sometimes I am deluded to think that obeying God is just too hard. That I can’t quite do it. Yes I can! Where I go wrong is trying to obey Him in my own strength. My heart will fail, it’s true. So what am I to do? Moses told the Israelites to ‘turn to the Lord.’ Look in His direction with all of your heart and soul… and in all of your brokenness. This will mean life!
Lord God, I look to You today, the Giver and Sustainer of life. Thank You for loving me and pursuing me in Christ. Thank You for being as close as my breath! I turn in your direction today. May my life be pleasing to You today.
