A Holy Reminder
Hello on this Maundy Thursday!
Maundy Thursday is what we call this day on Passion Week. It's the day when Jesus celebrated the Passover with His disciples in the large upper room (Matthew 26:17-30). This was when Jesus instituted the Lord's Supper, a memorial feast that we celebrate every Sunday! He washed the disciples feet (John 13) and told Judas to go do what he was about to do quickly. All the disciples, especially Peter, said that they would lay down their life for Him. To Peter Jesus said, "Will you really lay down your life for me? I tell you the truth, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!" Before the next morning dawned, Peter did exactly that.
Jesus would, on this Thursday night, agonize in the Garden of Gethsemane. He asked His Father to take this 'cup' away from Him. But although He did not want to die, He would do the Father's will, not His own. Soon after, in the darkness of night, Jesus was arrested. In the early morning he was put on trial and condemned. By Noon Jesus was hanging on the cross. Darkness enveloped the land. Around 3pm on Friday Jesus cried out in a loud voice and died. A death He didn't deserve. The Just for the unjust. The Righteous for the unrighteous.
Jesus was buried in a tomb, carved out of rock. He was wrapped in linens and place inside. A large stone covered the opening of the tomb. Armed soldiers guarded the entrance. The Son of God was dead...
But there's more to the story...
And we're going to celebrate!
Invite your friends, family and neighbors to worship with you at Norkenzie. We'll celebrate together this Resurrection Sunday at 9am or 11am! (Yes, Children's Ministry will be happening!)
