Silence In Heaven... And On Earth

When He opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.

Revelation 8:1

There are times when the appropriate response is absolute silence. There are times before the awesome power of God that not speaking a whisper is the very best thing. What’s interesting about this is just how much worship noise there had been in heaven already. When we read Revelation 4 & 5, there is non-stop sound. So for all of heaven to go silent… what a contrast!

There is significance in the contrasts. In my life there are times when I need to shout and sing at the top of my lungs all of the amazing things that Christ has done for me. There are also times when I must hardly breathe in awestruck wonder of this Holy God. It’s all worship! It’s all good.

Lord Jesus, thank You for the stillness of this morning as I consider how great You are. You are the One who holds the universe together and, truly, I am in awe of You. And just as all of heaven will sit in silence one day in honor of You - I, too, am speechless with the thought of You. Show me more of Yourself this day…
