Hiding Your Mina

Then another servant came and said, ‘Sir, here is your mina; I have kept it laid away in a piece of cloth. I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take out what you did not put in and reap what you did not sow.’

Luke 19:20-21

Jesus tells this parable that teaches us about Himself.  He is the One of noble birth who is leaving and will return as King.  There are those who did not, and do not, want Him to be King. That doesn’t matter.  He is King!

Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a colt in the verses immediately following.  This is an image of a victorious king who has returned from battle.  The people are shouting His praises and the religious leaders say that He should stop them from such foolishness.  Jesus replied, ‘If they don’t, the rocks will cry out.’

These images of Jesus as King are significant!  His teaching is important for my life today.  The King will be returning and will want to know what I did with the life He entrusted to me.  My ‘mina’ is a stewardship that belongs to the King and He wants a return on His investment.

Fear can keep me from risk.  Fear can keep me from reward, too.  The fearsome words of the King to the ‘wicked servant’ motivate me, as Jesus intended, to not hide my mina.  Invest it!  Use it!  Turn it into more.  I cannot allow the fear of loss to paralyze me into inaction.

King Jesus, I honor You today.  Thank You for the investment into my life.  Move me to action so I can return to You more than You have given to me.  All for Your glory!
